Garden

This place began as the ruins of a 500-year-old Cornish Barton – just old stone, tangled hedgerows, and the whispers of what once was. Over the last 13 years, it’s been slowly, lovingly brought it back to life – not just as somewhere to stay, but somewhere to be.

Today it’s four acres of peaceful countryside, gently cradled by the medieval fields around us. The feeling here is hard to put into words—quiet, yes, but not silent. Alone, but never lonely. It has a rooted stillness that people often sense, even if they don’t know why, maybe the medieval chapel that once stood here.

Seven natural springs rise from the ground and bubble up for half the year, feeding the River Fal as it winds its way to the sea. There’s a lake where moorhens nest, fish rise, and—if you’re lucky—you might spot a heron, a kingfisher, or even an otter passing through. A summerhouse sits by the water, tucked among trees, perfect for a quiet morning coffee or a book and a glass of wine as the sun fades.

In spring, the meadow is filled with hundreds of daffodils, Camassia, and clouds of blossom. At the bottom, there’s a wildlife pond alive with dragonflies and birdsong. There are vast herbaceous borders, rose-covered arbours, and a vegetable and cutting garden that gives guests seasonal flowers and food all year round. You’ll find a small apple orchard, a copse, and long borders full of shrubs and colour through the seasons.

It’s not a show garden. It’s a lived-in, much-loved space—full of the kind of beauty that doesn’t shout but slowly reveals itself the longer you linger.
